17 Virtual Events to Celebrate MLK’s Legacy with Your Kids

The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is one that we want to share with our children, especially in today’s world. While we can’t attend a local march or spend the day volunteering in our community, there are many ways you can bring Dr. King’s legacy to your children while we are home. From dramatic interpretations of Dr. King’s speeches to songwriting workshops where kids can write a song inspired by the civil rights movement, there are activities for all ages. Justice & Hope: The MLK2021 Virtual Celebration Usually held each year in San Francisco, virtually celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at this week-long celebration that brings us all together. Jan. 11-18. Event details.

The National Archives Comes Alive: Meet Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is portrayed by the Reverend Dr. John Moore, an internationally recognized minister and orator who has spoken and portrayed Dr. King at schools, colleges, churches, and organizational gatherings throughout the nation. Where Do We Go From Here? MLK Documentary Film Festival For this year's King Holiday, the Martin Luther King Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University will host a free, four-day webinar and film festival. On the eve of the presidential inauguration, the festival will feature twenty documentaries as well as musical performances and conversations that speak to Dr. King's unanswered question: "Where do we go from here?" Resiliency Murals Brooklyn-based artist Sophia Dawson creates large-scale murals that focus on individuals who have overcome injustices. In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, discuss how Dr. King overcame racial injustices and gave a voice to our dreams. Rally for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 2021 marks The 5th Avenue Theatre’s fifth year of proudly supporting the Kent School District’s Rally for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Each year, the rally is led by a team of passionate teen leaders and features musical performances, community speakers and student reflections on the life, work and legacy of Dr. King. Freedom Quilters of Gee Bend In 1966, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. visited the Gee’s Bend Community in rural Alabama, and the Freedom Quilting Bee was established.
